Senior Project Reflection

1.I am most proud of keeping my audience entertained especially with my activities because they learned different words in another language and also a bit of thier culture and why they say it like that. They were also entertained by my posters that said hello in six different languages.

2.(a)  P+ because i met requirements and my 2 hour was very enjoyable by everyone.

2.(b) P because so far i've done well on my interview and my research and i feel that if i did good on those then the rest has to be even better.

3. Having the research to back up what i have to say and knowing that i did an i-search paper made my 2 hour much easier and felt that i had a script the whole time.

4. The 3-column chart because it sarted too early and would have been better to have them after the i-search paper because i can get my info like that.

5. Knowing a lot about language acquisition has made me get into language more and i would like to translate for people not only as a job but to help them achive the language too. I want to be able to help people who have trouble pronunciating or writing a language because thats how its going to be in the future. Many people will know more than two languages instead of one and thats one achivement i hope to see in my future

I learned that not all the kids learn at the same pace. Even though they are at the age of learning new things and can learn faster than adults, they still need the patience and time to do the things. Some kids are faster than others when it comes to reading or math but others need their time to learn.

Applied
Service learning helped me the most when I would help out the kids in their homework, ssr, and when testing for their level of reading because even though its not a second language they are learning, they are taking similar steps to learning a language. When testing for their level of reading, they didnt know some words, their pronunciation was off and things like that made it similar to second language learning. Thats how I felt that it connects to my eq.

Independent Component 2

Calendar/ Log hours

(a) I, Nancy Atempa, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
(b) I completed 30 hours of learning Frech with Milan Freeman, we used a book called learn Frech in 30 days by Berlitz. We did a couple of lessons on it and the exercises and learned new words along the way, many ways to say to arrive in present tense and things like that. We used youtube.com to find the alphabet, greetings, numbers, how to pronounce certain letters and words and rules of how the words are said.

Interpretive

I believe this represents 30 hours of work because we did our best to practice the language as much as we could. There were little sections of te book that had stories and we would hear the audio and then try to interpret what it was trying to say. Because there was two of us, we corrected each other and made things less stressfull. Well at least i can say it gave me confidence to want to learn the language more.

Applied

This component helped answer my first answer to my eq even further than what i had before which is pronunciation and writting. Pronunciation was something really though to do because we have already developed a language or two and knowing a another language later on is kind of difficult. Like one of my biggest difficulties when learning french was the letter 'r'. Since I know how to roll my r's, the r in french has to be kept down and let the back of the mouth say it for you. In writting, it was also hard becuse its another language and so it means different rules apply to it. one of my biggest problems was that i had to keep looking at the word or sentence i had to write so i wouldnt spell it wrong. Something that was really hard for both were the words. An example like Bonjour you can't say the last letter of the word and when you write it down its one of those things that you already know even when a letter is silent.

1. For a career topic she wanted to do ADA which is a person who works with people who have disabilities. And i guess a fun topic would be music. She picked these because she seems interested in them.
  •  I told her thats a good start because not many of us see kids with disabilities and told her about my little sister who has autisim.  For her second topic i told her that Ogden is a big help considering his elective class is music and happens to know a lot about it.

2. Her aunt has a child who has a disability and would like to do hours along with the child. For music shes not really sure. maybe going to one of her old music teacher from middle school and see if she can do hours with them.
  •  I told her about a place called Casa Colina which is in La Verne for her first topic where she can do some service learning or at least check the place out. For the second one i told her that school is not a good place to check first because they might not let her and think of ther places like a music shop.
3. She's expecting a lot of in depth, like we should really know it by now and topics that dont come into someones mind.
  • I said that yes most of us know our topic but that doesnt mean we can put it into words becuase some of us might get stuck or forget everything we need to say or get really nervous. i told her that she should expect to get something out of it but she should remember that many of us are nervous.
4. She wants to know how senior topics work overall, is there any special rubric, and do they have to answer an essential question.
  • I told her about the N/C rules and the form we had to sign in the beginning of the year and how it works. some recommendations i told her were that ADA is a good topic because i think theres many disability places out there and some schools that have a special class for them.

Answer 3

Eq= What is the best way to learn a second language?
There are many people living in the US and English is their second language. So how is it that all those people come to learn the language? I believe that people learn a second language best by the environment they are surrounded by. Like English is used in every place; at school, in work, restaurants, banks and so on. Just about anywhere or what you read is english. For example, since spanish is my native language, I learned english by watching tv and learned in school. How I progressed is by talking to my peers and siblings. Other people like children learn by mimicking a person or something on tv which is still the environment.
