Self Refection

  1. Right now i think im at an AP but almost there to a P.
  2. I feel that I have done well on my research because I try to look for something new each time as in my topic but different views in an article.
  3. Presenting because I know what to say but then somehow when I present or when it gets close to my turn I freak out. Then I dont know what to say and just keep going on with one thing and never finish the rest.

Science Fair Proposal

  1. If children, ages 4-6, are taught the alphabet then bilingual children will know the alphabet with higher accuracy than other children.
  2. dependent: the % accuracy of the alphabet ; independent: that the child understands the language ; control: the children ages 4-6
  3. For my eq I wrote: what is the best way to learn a second language? I think this science experiment connects with my eq because im trying to see how well the kids learn a second language. Im also seeing who does well, the bilingual or monolingual child.
  4. I plan on having two groups one monolingual and the other bilingual but at seperate times I will test the groups. first of all I just want to go over the spanish alphabet, i will just explain the 26 letters and leave the extra out,so they can get a taste of it. Then i will test with a couple note cards a letter of the alphabet  to see if they remember or not. I will do the same for both 3 times at different days to see if the kids still remember.

What I Learned So Far

1. I've leaned that there are ways of teaching. The main 3 are visual, auditory, and hands on. And this not only works for kindergarten, it works for other people too. I also learned how to understand the teacher is the facilitator and how it works.
2.http://naseniorproject.blogspot.com/2011/10/defining-essential-question.html on #2 and #3 I talk about the methods which is the ways of teaching
3. http://www.wakeforestmontessori.com/matching-kindergartners-teaching- styles/
http://www.jobbankusa.com/career_employment/teachers_preschool_kindergarten_elementary_middle_secondary/job_descriptions_definitions_roles_responsibility.html
This reasearch hepled me understand what the style of teaching were and how to be a good teacher (facilitator). It also made me understand that you have to be patient in doing this.

Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

  1. I plan to do my service learning hours at Kellogg Polytechnic Elementary School with Ms. Watshke and her kindergarten class.
  2. I plan to do 5 hours at least for each week and if i can do more then I will. But I also dont want to rush myself so my max for each week will be 5 hrs.
  3. Well my service learning works really well because im trying to find the best ways to teach kindergarten by observing and helping out the teacher.

Defining the Essential Question

  1.  What is the best way to teach kindergarten?
  2. When I mean best way i think about the styles and methood's the teacher's use to teach a class. And teach meaning what do they do to grab the kids attention so they can be listening and understanding the concept.
  3. I think an answer would be discipline because my interview said that she read a book talking about that and instead of just discipline all the time it should be the opposite so the child can feel good and I think will give a positive atiutude towards learning. Another answer would be methoods because not all the kids are the same and each one learns in a different way.
  4. Well so far it's been the person I interviewed Ms.Watschke because she told me about 2 books regarding discipline and how to get children to focus (which I will read). Also what she told me to refer to my past and remember what was it was like when I entered kindergarten to get a better understanding.

  2. What school(s) have you teached at and are they different from others?
  3. When doing your credentials, was there something that stood out to you?
  4. What  was your experience like when you were in kindergarten? Is it different from now?
  5. Do you do the same thing each year or do you mix it up a bit?

Presentation Reflection

1. The interview hepled me explain what I was going to present on and also hepled me use an example. I know my topic is still kindergarten teacher but for that day i decided to go into detail about the types of kids who are in the classroom. I said that there was kids with disabilities in the class with the rest of the kids who dont have a disability. For my exaple I used a small story that the interviewer told me about a kid who has a hearing problem. So when someone talks and everyone is able to hear across the room, the child will get irritated and cover his ears.

2. I think that my visual stood out the most becuase it was a picture of my little sister and she has a disability and so I knew what i was talking about so I felt confident.

3. Calming down becuase I knew what to say and how it was gonna go but when i stood up there, my hands were shaking really bad and I forgot to say some things. Also being confident in what i was going to say becuase then you would have to back it up.

Senior Porject Presentation 1

Objective: Students will learn what a teacher is, the styles of teaching a kindergarten class, and today's kindergaten class.

Procedure:

  1. Since everyone knows what a teacher is, I will ask everyone or a couple of people what a teacher is for a check of understanding. From there I will explain the definition of a teacher and say my definition of a teacher.
  2. I will say facts that I have found from my research and my interview and connect it to my childhood from when I was in kindergarten
  3. Explain the styles of teaching a kindergarten class from before and now. Also talk about what has changed and what remains the same.
  4. Resource/Materials:For my visual I plan on using a poster board and on one side it will say my objective and the other side will be a collage of pictures and there will be hidden pictures that represent today's children in kindergarten and how it’s changing. And that will be my conclusion for my presentation.

Blog 2

1. I am interviewing a kindergarten teacher from the elementary school I went to because the teacher has been there for years even before I went into kindergarten. Also out all the years i've been there, many parents liked how she teaches.

2. I would ask if she has any styles of teaching, does she do something different each year, do most of the children move on to the 1st grade, and is there always something that you can learn from the kids?

Senior Topic

My topic is teaching and to be specific I would like to do teaching on kindergarten. I've decided to do this because children grab a lot info around this age and it's something im very curious about. What I hope to accomplish is what its like on the other side. What I mean by this is the difference of being the teacher and not the student. Another thing I want to accomplish is that possibly looking at it as a career because I think it's a very interesting job.
